Design, Integrate, Analyze, and Manage FAQ

Here are some comprehensive answers to all the questions asked in our recent webinar.

Schematic Capture | PCB Layout | General

Schematic Capture

Is there a method to check off each workflow item to confirm it has been complete?

There are convenient shortcuts to line items in the workflow - you may have a reason to revisit some items. There are no check boxes at this time.

Can we set custom Electrical Rule Checks (ERCs) if we require?

Yes - you can create custom ERCs.

What is the additional work that an electrical engineer must do to generate the PowerTree?

Sigrity X technology is integrated within System Capture, so what you’ll need to do is identify the input source pin, VRM, and pass through components as well as sync them.

Does System Capture automatically identify ‘pass through components’?

System Capture will automatically identify serially connected passive components (RLC) as an XNet.

Can you provide an update on system level design?

System Level Design is very important to many of our customers and has been considered by our development team and is on the roadmap for future releases of Allegro X.

PCB Layout

Can you export the comments from the design as document for review?

This feature is currently not available.

Within the PCB layout, in the properties of components, the swappability of gates and pins is still disabled – why is this the case?

It should not be disabled. If you are still seeing this, please reach out to Cadence Support.

Does the IPC-2581 layer stackup from the board house include materials information that will show up in Allegro X?

Yes, it includes material information.

How is the layout connected to the Pulse server?

Once Pulse establishes a link, for the subsequent schematic commits labeled as Ready for Layout, Pulse sends notifications to the layout designers. A new icon in the status bar of the PCB Editor represents that schematic update is available and the Schematic Sync Status changes in the Allegro X Pulse Status window. You can also view the schematic version available for update.

How were the directions to layout entered in Pulse?

When the electrical engineer checked in his changes, he added comments to reflect what changes had been made as part of the revision.

In the markup section, can I attach an image to my response?

An image is already attached. There is a little green PCB that’s linked which shows the selected area and the comment it’s attached to. When you click on it, you can see a snapshot of the design.

General

Does Pulse work with OrCAD X Capture and PCB Layout?

Pulse is exclusive to designs in Allegro X System Capture and PCB Editor.

What is difference between OrCAD X and Allegro X?

In short, OrCAD X is ideal for individuals and small to mid-sized businesses working on projects focused on quick turn PCB design. While Allegro X is suited for enterprise level customers working on high-complexity designs requiring advanced capabilities, collaboration, high-performance, ZTNA infrastructure, and scalability.

Are the electrical engineer’s comments and suggested change indicators available for package designers in Allegro X Package Designer (APD)? Or are they exclusive to the PCB editor?

As of now it’s only available in PCB, but there are plans to add comments to APD.

What's the difference between Allegro X layout features and the original Allegro tools?

The biggest differences are in terms of product performance, enhanced integrations into analysis, and integration into Allegro X AI. The base tool has not changed, but new development is focused on Allegro X.

Can I see these marked up comments through the web interface?

Our PCB web browser viewer will be released in Q1 of 2025 which will support viewing and commenting.

Is the 'Pulse' capability a part of the Allegro Venture X license?

Yes, Pulse is integrated within the Allegro X Venture license.

Do you have TCL Training available on Cadence Online Support (COS) like Skill programming?

To start, you can access this TCL Scripting Reference on the COS portal.
