Simplifying ECAD Design Sharing, Reviews and Teamwork FAQ
Here are some comprehensive answers to all the questions asked in our recent webinar.

OrCAD X OnCloud Workspace
OrCAD X does not currently support local cloud deployment. However, if you are interested, Allegro X supports on-premise and private cloud deployment.
Yes, this is possible! To retrieve a specific revision, simply use the Edit and Copy to my Workspace operation, so that the file is copied to your local workspace. Once the file is copied, you can move this file from a cached workspace location to your local disk and then repeat the above steps for other revisions.
The Cloud storage limit is based on which tier of OrCAD X you’ve purchased. If you have OrCAD X Standard, you’ll have access to 10 GB of storage space, and with OrCAD X Professional or Professional Plus, you’ll have access to 50 GB of storage space.
If you want to use cloud-based capabilities, you will need to have a cloud-based license, but OrCAD X OnCloud is available out-of-the-box. Please note that depending on which tier you purchase whether it’s OrCAD X Standard, Professional, or Professional Plus you may have limited or full functionality.
You have the freedom to share just the specified files. In the published dialog you can include and exclude the files that you want to share within the workspace.
If a particular project is present in the workspace, one method is that you can lock the project so that no other member can edit. Or you can download to your local area and delete the project from the workspace.
Within OrCAD X OnCloud you can share any file type. So if you have an ECAD/MCAD file on a different workspace and your teammate has access to it, then yes you can share the file with them.
No, you can choose to keep your workspace ‘Local’ or on the ‘Cloud’. Cloud allows you to share your projects and design files with internal team members and external partners.
OrCAD X OnCloud enables geographically dispersed teams to collaborate in real-time through shared workspaces making it easy for teams to work on the same design simultaneously. On top of that, design sync ensures that changes are synchronized across users. It includes robust component management with live supply chain insights, ensuring designs are current and parts are readily available. The platform also offers detailed revision history for seamless version control and stores designs in the cloud, providing easy access from anywhere while reducing IT infrastructure needs. Additionally, up to two designers can co-edit projects in real-time on the PCB layout side significantly boosting team efficiency.
There is no limit to the number of individuals that can be added to a shared workspace. Note: you must have an OrCAD X Professional or Professional Plus license to create and manage shared workspaces. Individuals with OrCAD X Standard licenses can participate in a shared workspace but cannot create or manage.
Web Viewer
Currently the web viewer supports viewing of a shared schematic and PCB layout in 2D. Support for 3D view of the PCB layout is part of the roadmap.
While there is no time limit set for accessing the files when you share a link to the design files with specific email addresses, you can revoke a user’s access by removing their email from the Shared with section of Workspace Configuration GUI in OrCAD X.
The browser-based viewers are scheduled to be available at the end of Q2 in 2025.
No, you do not need an OrCAD X license to view a design. You can either be invited to view a project/design via the browser-based viewers or download the OrCAD X Free Viewer on your system – which also gives you access to view both schematic and PCB layout.
No, all you need is to be registered on the Cadence community website, so no license is required.
General
It is on the roadmap, but the date of release has not yet been defined. On-premise and private cloud is supported in Allegro X.
When using Allegro X, we recommend using System Capture for your schematic capture needs.
The initial load takes some time on large designs as the image is being rendered dynamically. After the initial render the speed improves significantly.
