Validating Symbol- to-Footprint Mapping No matter how perfect your schematic or how carefully you route, if a component's footprint or pinout is wrong, your board will fail in manufacturing or bring-up. Symbol-to- footprint mapping errors are a leading cause of first-pass board failures, even among experienced engineers. Mistakes here can cause shorted or open pins, reversed polarity, mounting or solderability problems, and expensive delays for hand-mods or respins. This validation is your first defense against such "unfixable" errors. When And Where To Apply Perform footprint validation before any placement or routing, as soon as new parts are added to the schematic. Always check new symbols and footprints, even if they come from a trusted library, and re-verify any part for which you modify the symbol, pin mapping, or land pattern.
