15. Confirming Board Edge Clearances for Copper, Vias, and Components If copper, vias, or components are placed too close to the PCB edge, they can become exposed or damaged during depanelization, break-off, or enclosure assembly. This can lead to short circuits, manufacturing scrap, or field failures. Strict edge clearance is especially critical for designs with routed slots, V-score panels, high voltage, or when using edge connectors and castellated holes. Ensuring adequate spacing also makes handling, soldering, and post-assembly processes safer and more reliable. When And Where To Apply Apply edge clearance rules before and during initial placement, and again during final DRC before manufacturing output. This is mandatory for all boards, but especially those with dense layouts, V-scoring, depanelization, or safety/creepage requirements. Example of copper to board edge clearance
