Page 5 Module 1: SPEC Definition First step towards applying a SPEC to a drawing or object requires creation of the SPEC definition. IPC-2581 SPEC definitions have many possible variations. One SPEC definition may contain many entries such as Fabrication Notes, while others define assembly instructions on a part, identify trace characteristics, and more. In the following lab, you will learn to create the SPEC definition. LAB 1: Creating a Notes SPEC Documentation for PCBs may contain many different types of notes, Assembly, Test, Fabrication, etc. In this example, a simple set of Fabrication notes will be defined as an IPC-2581 SPEC. Then, it will be assigned to the Board database. The Fab Notes used in this example are typically seen on the Fabrication Drawing as: FAB NOTES: 1. All dimensions are in inches unless otherwise specified. 2. Fabricate PCB per IPC-6012 and Class 2 and conform to IPC-A-600 Class 2 Workmanship using current revisions. 1. Open the SpecLab_1.brd file in the PCB Editor. 2. From the PCB Editor menu, select Setup > IPC581 Spec Definitions. a. The Define IPC2581 Specs form will open.
