inspectAR Calibration Animation

The inspectAR application contains a calibration animation now to better explain our 2-5 min calibration process. Calibration is a vitally important step that must be completed to view AR overlays on top of your board.  

Check out the first section of our tutorial here and note the three key steps:

  1.  Place the board within the white board outline and confirm it’s orientation is correct. Many boards have a unique ‘keyed’ orientation that you cannot put in backwards like the Arduino Uno. Other board sizes such as circles and regular polygons are not so simple – you can easily calibrate these in the wrong orientation.
    1. To be extra sure the orientation is correct try toggling our soldermask & silkscreen filter, this way you can use components, silkscreen text, etc to uniquely confirm the orientation of your board.
  2. Check your focus. Is the board clear? Can you easily read text like you can just by looking at the board? If it is at all blurry click focus to bring things into view.  
  3. Press capture when things look good and move on to the next step.  

The second section of the calibration tutorial will play when you need to confirm the board outline to us. Again, before you start to adjust things you are going to need to confirm that your board is still in focus.  

Assess how well our edge detection algorithm picked up the edge of your board. You can improve the performance of this algorithm by placing a flat, textureless background behind your board (close your eyes, picture cardboard coming hot off the conveyor belt in a factory).  

  1. From here you can use a couple handle and axis locks to save some time getting the board outline to match. The video explains these better than I can.  
  2. Finally, don’t forget to zoom into each corner in order to confirm the final alignment of the board.
