Copper Features – The copper features checks contain minimum line widths, antennas, and acid traps. Copper Spacing – The spacing clearances of the various copper geometries (pads, shapes, traces, non-signal) to other copper geometry clearances. Silkscreen – Sets the clearance values for silkscreen text and geometry to pins, holes, and vias. Also, line width and min length. Design for Manufacturing checks requires the BOARD GEOMETERY/DESIGN_OUTLINE subclass as the extents of the board outline. Any cutouts within the outline must also be defined as BOARD GEOMETRY/CUTOUT geometries. The BOARD GEOMETRY/ OUTLINE subclass is ignored. Only items that are contained within or intersect the DESIGN_OUTLINE are considered for verification. Any object that is external to the design outline is ignored. When Design for Manufacturing checks are enabled as on-line, the user is notified of any violations as they occur. In some situations, many DRCs may be reported but the correction may be on one object. Such an example would be an annular ring check for hole to pad. If the via pad stack is incorrect, each via in the design may be flagged with a DRC. Once the pad stack is corrected in the design, the DRC markers will all be removed. Core DFF Analysis Mode Options In the Analysis Mode's Design for Fabrication entry are settings that may be applied as part of the DesignTrue DFM checking capability. These options are defined as follows: Zero Line Width: This attribute specifies the default line width to be used during evaluation of fabrication checks with lines whose width is zero. By default, this field will show the maximum value specified for undefined line width from the first Film record defined in the artwork parameter record. Setting this value will override the artwork parameter for evaluation of fabrication checks. This value is also applicable for text line if photo plot width is zero. For texts, the DRC engine looks for photo plot width specified in the text block and if that is zero, this value will be assumed. Min copper area for mask opening: The check for ensuring minimum void opening (Mask opening on shapes) reduces potential bubbling during manufacturing process. But this check is not relevant for small shapes. This attribute is for capturing minimum area of shapes that qualify for mask opening. If any value is specified here, the minimum mask opening check will run only for those shapes whose area is larger than this value. Otherwise, the check will run for all the shapes if turned on. This attribute assumes area value in design units (say, sq. mil or sq. nm). Allow overlapping Pad/shape on the same net: Checks for overlap of pad with a shape or pad on the same net. In copper spacing checks, if two pads of the same net overlap, or if a pad overlaps with a shape on the same net in case of static shape, fabrication DRC violations are reported with actual value as OVERLAP. This may be perfectly valid case from manufacturing perspective. Allow overlapping soldermask: Allows the overlapping of soldermask geometries. 4 www.cadence.com OrCAD X DesignTrue DFM Rules Guide
