To replace this resistor with another resistor as a preferred part, Click the Add Preferred Part button. Variant Editor allows you to change a part to another preferred part only if the new part have the same footprint or a compatible footprint. The compatible footprint can be defined using the file cjdectype.txt which is placed in the SITE area. All the compatible footprints are listed in the file in different sections which are delimited using a semicolon (;). In the workshop setup, we've defined the following footprints to be compatible. o RESC1608N & CAPC1608N o RESC2012N & CAPC2012N 8. This opens the Add component for Variants dialog box. The search criteria of compatible footprint are already applied, and results are displayed according to it. This ensures that the selected preferred part has a compatible footprint.
